Parking at The Beach House & Salty Paws cottages
We always want to be completely honest with folks about parking, because experience tells us that it can be a bit of an emotive subject for some! So we want everyone to be 100% happy before they book a stay at our cottages,

There is parking in the grounds of the cottages for 1 car for each cottage. The parking area is at the back of the grounds, and the driveways to it are quite tight. The cottage buildings were built around 50 years ago, when cars were much smaller than they are now, and things like SUVs hadn't been invented! The driveways were built then around the cottages, and can't be changed now because of where the cottages are and the boundaries of the overall plot.

Having said that, we have carried out a lot of work in the last 18 months to improve the parking facilities, and you can fit most sized cars in the parking provided, including many SUVs.

Please find full details below of the parking at our cottages. If you have any questions about parking, please get in touch and we will always be delighted to help.

Best wishes,

John & Nicola,
Parking for each cottage
There is room to park 1 car for each cottage at the back of the land where the cottages are. To get there, you go through the light brown gates at the front, follow the driveway through the 2nd gate, up to the top where you'll see the spaces to park.
Salty Paws is the white building (with wooden trellis) you can see the corner of on the left. The Beach House is on the right, you can just see the corner of its garden fence.

Parking for Salty Paws is on the left, just after the cottage. There is a dedicated parking space, and you can see the end of our dark blue Mini parked in it.

Parking for The Beach House is next to the fence on the right of the plot, where you can see our lighter blue car parked.
Here's a view of the dedicated parking space for Salty Paws. There's a sign on the fence saying, 'Salty Paws Parking'.

If possible, it might be better to reverse into the parking space to make it a bit easier going out.
Here's the dedicated parking space for The Beach House. Again there's a sign on the fence saying, 'Beach House Parking'.
Please park the front of your car right up to the edge of the tarmac path (without blocking access to the garden gate), and as close to the green fence as is comfortable. This then gives the guests in Salty Paws the space to get their car in and out.

It might take a 4 point turn to turn your car round, but it is doable.
What fits?
We and many guests have now tried and tested the parking, and it is surprising what size car can fit, and has fitted.

Our bigger car, a Jaguar XF, fits fine, and it is quite a bit bigger than your average car. The dimensions of the Jaguar are 5m long x 1.9m wide.

To see if your car will fit. . .
Just do a quick Google for your car's dimensions. If it's no bigger than our Jaguar, it should fit fine. It's only length and width you need to look at, there are no issues with height.

A quick Google for the average sized car in the UK suggests it's around 4.4m long x 1.8m wide. Although many folks are buying SUVs these days, which are of course bigger than this. But a quick Google of your own car will give you a good idea if the parking is a goer. You can then decide what you want to do when you come to stay at the cottages.
If you feel your car is too big
You might find it easier to park on the grass verge opposite the cottages, which is where some of the residents of Cliff Lane park their cars. If you do park here, there are a couple of small areas with yellow lines in front of them, so please take care to avoid these.

If you do park on the grass verge, please park at a 45 degree angle. This way more cars are able to park there than if you park lengthways.

At times Cliff Lane can get busy with the cars of people going to the beach. Particularly during school holidays and weekends, when the weather is good and the tide is out.

If the grass verge is full, you could park on the main road near the garage, which is just 2 minutes' walk from the cottages, and then move your car to near the cottage once the area has become less busy, such as when it's high tide. At high tide the sea pretty much comes right up to the cliffs, so the beach empties a lot then, as do the number of cars parked.
More than 1 car?
There is only room for 1 car in the parking area for each cottage. So if you are coming in 2 cars, one of the cars will need to be parked on the grass opposite the cottages.
